To arrive to San Miguel de Allende, there are various airports you can fly into but must consider the extra travel time. The drive to San Miguel de Allende can vary from 1.15 hours to 3.5 hours depending the airport you decide to fly in.

Airports and Travel Time

Guanajuato International Airport (BJX) - Landing at this airport is the easiest way to arrive considering it can be more economical, only 1.5 hours from SMA, and more frequent flights. We are flying to BJX as we found it more convenient and less costly. This might not be the case for everyone but it’s what has worked for us the couple of times we’ve traveled to SMA.

Querétaro Intercontinental Airport (QRO) - The drive in is only 1.15 hours, frequent flights, and more costly unless you can find a deal. Definitely an ideal way to arrive to SMA but make sure flying into Querétaro works for your travel plans.

Mexico City International Airport (MEX) - Mexico City is 3.5 hours from SMA and third best way to arrive. There are guests flying into Mexico City International Airport to enjoy the city prior to arriving to SMA and arriving by shuttle or personal drivers.

Hiring a taxi or shuttle bus is an easy way to arrive to SMA once arriving to Guanajuato (BJX) or Querétaro (QRO). You can schedule a pickup with BajioGo, hire a taxi, or rent a car. Once you’re in SMA a car is not really necessary since everything is walking distance and there’s readily available taxis and Uber. Review the prices below from and to the airports.

San Miguel de Allende has some amazing homes and architecture. We encourage you to shop around vacation homes and hotels. Location is important when searching for a hotel or Airbnb. The closer you are to the downtown area the noisier and pricier it is. We last stayed in a house walking distance about 10 minutes walking distance from the downtown area and it was perfect.
